Greater Accuracy

A 3 Dimensional Image of Your Breast Provides Better Image for Screening and Diagnosis

A 3D Image

During the 3D part of the exam, the X-ray arm sweeps in a slight arc over your breast, taking multiple breast images creating a 3D image of your breast tissue in one millimeter slices, providing greater visibility in a way never before possible.

What Can I Expect?

3D mammography complements standard mammography and is performed at the same time with the same system.

A Few Seconds

There is no additional compression required, and it only takes a few more seconds for each view. Very low X-ray energy is used during the exam, just about the same amount as a traditional mammogram done on film.

The 3D Advantage

With conventional digital mammography, the radiologist is viewing all the complexities of your breast tissue in one flat image, 3D mammograms create a more detailed view.

Greater Clarity

By looking at the breast tissue in one millimeter slices, the radiologist can provide a more confident assessment. They are able to page through these views like a book identifying issues missed by conventional 2D mammography.

Greater Piece of Mind with 3D Mammograms.

Listen to Dr. Chan

Dr. Natalie Chan Explains the Importance of 3D Mammograms

At the Imaging Center for Women, we’re now using 3D tomosynthesis — which is a huge step in the advancement of mammography.  3D mammography can detect about 35 percent of cancers sooner.  Since it gives us a more defined picture, women are less likely to be called back or have a biopsy. This all adds up to greater peace of mind.

How 3D Mammograms Work

Greater Piece of Mind

35% Better Cancer Detection

3D tomosynthesis is a major breakthrough in mammography, and we’re excited to offer it at the Imaging Center for Women. Due to the level of detail 3D tomosynthesis provides, it can detect up to 35 percent of cancers sooner.

Fewer Biopsies and Call Backs

Since 3D mammograms give a more defined picture, women are less likely to be called back or have a biopsy. This all adds up to greater peace of mind for women.
